"A Brief Transition into Winter"
6-20 April 2023
“A very mild winter in the Mourne Mountains, where Autumn never really transitioned into the full season of Winter, and where many of the leaves maintained their vivid transitional colours of red, orange and yellow.
The Exhibition
A brief but short-lived period of ice and snow over a cold December weekend provided a chance to capture some rune-like features in the frozen landscape. This produced highly contrasting pictures but from a very similar background and timeframe.

Unlike conventional fine art photography, mixed media art means that it is not a prerequisite for the captured image to be perfect, either in composition or exposure. A shallow depth of field or slow shutter speed can create undefined areas where the artist can explore ideas with different inks or paint, and in a variety of styles. Small areas of detail can be subtly embellished to bring out their true form and add points of interest to the composition. There are no rules, and revisiting a base image on different occasions can produce very different interpretations, depending on the mood of the artist… or the song in the headphones.

All images are mixed media photographs embellished with acrylic ink. The photo is printed on Platinum Baryta 300 archival paper with pigment ink and embellished with a range of acid-free acrylic inks.
