October 2024

October  marks the transition into warm colours of Autumn. Nature may throw the occasional storm into the mix, but in general, from a photography perspective, you start to see the return of the long shadows and more interesting light to play with. On the days when it is overcast and damp, which are many, the super-saturated bark in the forest emits a radiant glow, often complemented by the changing colours of the leaves.

This collection was gathered over the October period with captures from Mourne Park, an ancient woodland close to where I live, along with local seascapes from the coastline at Slatemill Bay, Ballymartin and Dundrum Bay at Newcastle. For a number of the captures, I ventured back into ICM techniques (Intentional Camera Movement) in preperation for a talk that I am giving next year. At one end of the scale, ICM can be used to create a very abstract form of image, whilst at the other, it can be used to create subtle movement in a particular direction, maybe to accentuate the motion of waves.
